Hobart is Australia's most southern city, and you can feel the winter winds incoming from the Antarctic. Tasmania's capital city stretches along the banks of the Derwent River, and is bordered on one side by the impressive Mt Wellington. Take some time to stroll around Arthur Circus, where whalers' cottages form a colourful circle around a beautiful park.
From Lake St Clair in central Tasmania, the Derwent River flows past Mount Field National Park, Tasmania's oldest and most popular national park, towards Hobart. Here, the river estuary widens to form a fine harbour before flowing into the waters of Storm Bay and out to the Tasman Sea.

Salamanca Market
Held every Saturday from 8:30 to 3:00 on Salamanca place, some of the Tasmania’s best arts and crafts, food and flowers produced are displayed at Salamanca Market. Offering a shopping experience with a difference, the Salamanca Market is somewhere where you can meet the people who create, make or grow what they sell.

Mount Wellington

Battery Point
Kelly's Steps lead up from Salamanca Place to Battery Point, a district with an enduring village atmosphere. Narrow streets, closely packed cottages, the flower-filled green of Arthurs Circus and the "corner-store" nature of the shops enhance the nineteenth-century village feel.
