Media Release
17 March 2010
The three airports owned and operated by Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) at Gold Coast, Townsville and Mount Isa recorded more than 550,000 passenger movements collectively for the month of February, an increase of 18% compared to February 2009. The results for entire QAL Group were very positive. Mount Isa Airport delivered its most significant increase in twelve months – almost 30% growth on this time last year. Townsville Airport recorded strong growth of 14% in passenger movements compared to February 2009. Gold Coast Airport also continued its strong growth in both domestic and international passenger movements, with a year on year total increase of almost 19%. “We are pleased with the passenger results for February, traditionally a quieter time of year for travel. It is very positive to see growth in each of the Airports in the QAL Group,” said QAL Managing Director Dennis Chant. “Overall this is the most positive month we have experienced since the onset of the GFC in late 2008. “The growth in Mount Isa and Townsville reflect the improving outlook for resources and the growth in regional services. “Gold Coast Airport’s domestic and international passenger growth remains strong. Our international passenger numbers continue to grow, as more people take advantage of the services provided by Jetstar, AirAsia X, Pacific Blue and Air New Zealand,” Mr Chant said.

The preliminary passenger movement figures recorded at the three QAL owned airports during February 2010 were:
