Queensland Airports Limited Passenger Growth Continues in 2010

Media Releases
23 February 2010
The three airports owned and operated by Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) at Gold Coast, Townsville and Mount Isa recorded just over 594,000 passenger movements collectively for the month of January, an increase of 2.9% compared to January 2009. Gold Coast Airport achieved a new all time monthly record of 464,056 passenger movements. “Growth of 23% in international traffic propelled Gold Coast Airport to a new all time monthly record despite the continued challenges faced by the travel industry,” said Dennis Chant, Managing Director of QAL. Reflecting the improving environment in the resource sector Mount Isa Airport recorded growth of 2.1%, its first in fourteen months. Townsville exhibited continued, but modest, growth. “It is heartening to see Mount Isa return to a growth phase after a long period of declining numbers attributed to the GFC. “Townsville continues to show resilience typical of its performance throughout the challenges of the last year,” Mr Chant said. The preliminary passenger movement figures recorded at the three QAL owned airports during January 2010 were:

Townsville 117,131 + 1.3%
