Queensland Airports Limited Welcomes Jetstar Capacity Increases

Media Release
14 December 2009

Queensland Airports Limited, owner operators of Gold Coast and Townsville Airports, has welcomed
news of significant capacity increases from Jetstar into their two airports.
The increases, which will take effect in stages between March and July 2010, will see the airline
capitalise on the strong capacity of existing services.
QAL Managing Director, Mr Dennis Chant, said the increases will provide key benefits to both
regions.
“The Gold Coast capacity increase will see Gold Coast-Melbourne increase from 6 times to eight
times daily and Gold Coast-Sydney increase from 9 times to 11 times daily. These are traditionally
Gold Coast Airport’s top two domestic routes. Services to Newcastle have also increased from daily
to twice daily, indicative of growth in demand for that service.
“Overall, Gold Coast Airport will welcome an additional 35 extra weekly services.
“The Townsville – Melbourne service has also received a significant increase from three times
weekly to daily, effective July 2010.
“QAL airports are the significant beneficiaries of Jetstar’s increases across their Australian network,
securing 50 per cent of the 77 weekly services announced, 45 per cent to the Gold Coast and 5 per
cent to Townsville.
“This tremendous boost for both the Gold Coast and Townsville regions is great news for our
passengers and the tourism industry generally. We commend Jetstar for their ongoing
commitment,” Mr Chant said.
The additional 35 weekly services into Gold Coast Airport equate to an additional 644,280 seats
each year, and Townsville will welcome an additional 73,632 seats per annum.
