Security at Townsville Airport is governed by the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 and Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005. Under the Act and Regulations, Townsville Airport is considered a security controlled airport.
An Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) must be held by anyone who requires frequent access to enter secure areas at security controlled airports in Australia. The form of the ASIC is nationally consistent and mandated under the Regulations. ASICs are valid for up to two years.
The ASIC scheme is a layer of security that ensures that only people who have been background checked to a certain level are permitted to be in the secure areas of airports. The ASIC scheme aims to reduce the risk of unlawful interference with aviation, not just terrorism.
All ASIC applications (new and renewals) are treated the same. Every new or renewal ASIC application requires the following:
- The Applicant has read and understood the Townsville Airport Security Awareness Guide
- The applicant has passed the Townsville Airport Online Security Induction test (please send below Induction Request Form to email@example.com in order to be enrolled in the test)
- The applicant must bring their completed and signed ASIC application to their appointment
- The applicant must bring their updated identification documents to their appointment.
All applicants must complete the online Townsville Airport Security Induction Test prior to booking an ASIC appointment with Townsville Airport. Applicants get ONE attempt per day and will be automatically enrolled the following day if they fail.
