Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)

Security at Townsville Airport is governed by the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 and Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005. Under the Act and Regulations, Townsville Airport is considered a security controlled airport.

An Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) must be held by anyone who requires frequent access to enter secure areas at security controlled airports in Australia. The form of the ASIC is nationally consistent and mandated under the Regulations. ASICs are valid for up to two years.

The ASIC scheme is a layer of security that ensures that only people who have been background checked to a certain level are permitted to be in the secure areas of airports. The ASIC scheme aims to reduce the risk of unlawful interference with aviation, not just terrorism.

Any person who is applying for an ASIC must first read the Townsville Airport  Security Awareness Guide. The guide must also be read prior to renewing your ASIC.

Applicants must complete an online Security Induction Test prior to booking an ASIC appointment with Townsville Airport.
