Townsville Airport Preliminary Draft Master Plan Now on Public Exhibition

Media Release
29 October 2010
Townsville Airport is inviting public comment from all interested members of the local community on its Preliminary Draft Airport Master Plan, which was released for public comment today.
Chief Operating Officer at Townsville Airport Kevin Gill said the 2010 Master Plan was a statutory requirement under the Federal Government’s Airports Act 1996.
“Under the Airports Act 1996, all airports are required to submit their approved Master Plans every five years for revision and approval by the Federal Government.
“The current Townsville Airport Master Plan has served the airport well since its approval over five years ago.
“It is important to note that the approval of the Master Plan does not authorise any major development on airport, these require additional community consultation and approval by the Federal Government through the Major Development Plan process,” Mr Gill said.
The Preliminary Draft Master Plan will be on public display from Friday October 29 2010 to 5pm Thursday 3 February 2011, by which time all comments must be submitted in writing to the airport.
Copies of the Preliminary Draft Master Plan are available for viewing and purchase during normal business hours at the administration offices of Townsville Airport or by visiting (free of charge) during the consultation period.
Community information sessions will also be taking place during the consultation period; details regarding this will follow at a later date.
