Jetstar adds thousands of seats on Melbourne - Townsville route

Flying to Melbourne is about to get even easier, with Jetstar set to boost capacity on one of Townsville Airport’s busiest routes from next month.

Between June and October 2025, the low-cost carrier will operate an Airbus A321neo in place of the smaller A320, adding more than 4,500 extra return seats during what is Townsville Airport’s peak travel season.

Townsville Airport records busiest financial year in more than a decade

Townsville Airport has celebrated its busiest financial year in more than a decade, facilitating nearly 1.7 million passengers between 1 July 2023and 30 June 2024.

Townsville Travel Heats Up as Temperatures Down South Drop

Townsville Airport is bracing for an influx of southerners as cold weather sends holidaymakers north bringing more than 5,000 passengers a day expected over the next two weeks.

July and August are traditionally the busiest times of the year for the airport, kickstarted by the winter school holidays which commenced this week.
