Townsville Airport Ground Transport Gateway
Townsville Airport provides a dedicated ground transport zone at the front of the terminal for convenient passenger drop-offs and pick-ups. Access to this area is managed via a secure boom gate and Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) system, collectively known as the Ground Transport Gateway.
Ground Transport Gateway
A range of approved transport operators service this area to ensure safe and efficient connections to and from the airport. These include shuttle buses, taxis, courtesy coaches, rideshare vehicles, limousines and charter buses.
All ground transport operators must be registered and approved, with an RFID sticker affixed to their vehicle to access the Ground Transport Facilities.

Who is required to use the Townsville Airport Ground Transport Gateway?
All taxi drivers and commercial vehicle operators – including buses, shuttles, and limousines – who wish to access the designated ground transport area at the front of the terminal must use the Townsville Airport Ground Transport Gateway.
How does the Townsville Airport Ground Transport Gateway work?
The system operates similarly to an electronic tolling setup. Each registered vehicle is fitted with a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) on the windscreen. This RFID is linked to an online account, which is automatically debited when the vehicle enters or exits the boom gate-controlled area.
Entry and exit are recorded by RFID readers positioned at key points within the ground transport zone.
