Townsville Airport supports local Indigenous businesses

February 3, 2017

Townsville Airport, through its owner Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), is pleased to be a presenting partner of the city’s inaugural Indigenous JumpStart Entrepreneur Workshop on February 6 and 7.

More than 40 participants from 23 local Indigenous businesses will participate in the workshop, which is designed to equip them with tools and methods of design thinking to assist in solving business challenges.

Attendees will hear from high profile business leaders including North Queensland Cowboys CEO Greg Tonner, Townsville Airport COO Kevin Gill, and Shark Tank Australia panellist Glen Richards.

The workshop follows a highly successful JumpStart event held on the Gold Coast in August last year, also supported by QAL, which saw 11 Indigenous organisations take part.

Townsville Airport COO Kevin Gill said the airport was pleased to provide support to the Indigenous community in which it operates.

“This event gives local Indigenous businesses a unique learning opportunity and a chance to workshop ideas with representatives of some of the city’s biggest businesses,” he said.

“It’s also a platform to identify needs of Indigenous business to guide future initiatives.

“Following the success of the Gold Coast event, it’s great to see sponsors have jumped back on board to bring JumpStart to Townsville.

“Collectively, we’re very proud to play a part in helping build a prosperous Indigenous business sector for the city.”

Other sponsors include the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Supply Nation, James Cook University, Townsville Region Indigenous Business Network and the Queensland Government.

JumpStart is provided free to charge and is funded entirely by event sponsors.
